The Ultimate Guide to Building a Sustainable Fitness Routine

Let’s be honest - starting a new fitness routine is relatively easy. Sticking with it? That’s the hard part!
Whether you're aiming to lose weight, build strength, or just feel better in your body, consistency is the real secret. The good news? You don’t need to go all in to make progress - you just need a routine that fits your life, not one that disrupts it.
Here’s how to build a fitness routine that actually sticks:
Start Where You Are - Not Where You Think You “Should” Be
Trying to jump into five workouts a week when you’re used to none is a fast track to burnout. Start small. Even two focused sessions a week can spark real change.
Schedule It Like You Would a Meeting
If it’s not on the calendar, it’s easy to skip. Pick specific days and times for your workouts and treat them as non-negotiable appointments with your future self.
Find What You Enjoy
Hate running? Don’t run. Love dancing? Find a class or follow a YouTube workout. Consistency comes naturally when you actually enjoy what you’re doing, that’s why I set my clients a fitness plan tailored to their goals AND their likes and dislikes. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable yes but also to enjoy what you do is key, not only for progress but for longevity of your new found fitness.
Progress Gradually
You don’t need to smash every single workout. Focus on showing up consistently and slowly increasing your intensity and duration over time. That’s how real, lasting progress happens.
5. Build in Flexibility
Life happens - kids, long work days, unexpected things. The key is to have a backup plan (a 20-minute home workout, a walk, or a mobility session) and not let one missed session disrupt your whole week.
Remember: Your fitness routine should support and improve your life. Start simple, stay consistent, and give yourself some patience. That’s the path to results that last.
